South Philly Sausage - Brigantessa

Last weekend we walked down to Passyunk to Brigantessa because we heard they had amazing sausage and I love everything I've had at Le Virtu, their sister restaurant down the street.

We started off dinner with a carafe of wine, unfortunately, because it made me forget the name of the appetizer sausage we shared that was covered in what I think was a liver pesto and was absolutely amazing.

We shared two pizzas between three people, the first was the Macellaio with smoked mozzarella, ‘nduja, pork sausage, pancetta.  It was perfectly done.

The second was the Stella with sheep’s milk ricotta, San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, sausage.  I think we loved this one more because of the ricotta bites built into the crust.

The house made sausages on both were worth the visit.

After we stuffed ourselves as full as possible, we asked for the rest of the pizza to be boxed up and headed across the street to the POPE where we realized there was no way we'd be able to eat any more pizza that night so we handed our takeout box to a man while we were waiting to get our ID's checked.  He looked like he was at the point in his night when he needed pizza and his eyes got wide when we said it was from Brigantessa, so I'm confident he took it home and enjoyed every last bite that we couldn't finish.

Overall we had an awesome meal 5/5 sausages!  Would eat again.
