South Philly Sausage - Brigantessa

Last weekend we walked down to Passyunk to Brigantessa because we heard they had amazing sausage and I love everything I've had at Le Virtu, their sister restaurant down the street.

We started off dinner with a carafe of wine, unfortunately, because it made me forget the name of the appetizer sausage we shared that was covered in what I think was a liver pesto and was absolutely amazing.

We shared two pizzas between three people, the first was the Macellaio with smoked mozzarella, ‘nduja, pork sausage, pancetta.  It was perfectly done.

The second was the Stella with sheep’s milk ricotta, San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, sausage.  I think we loved this one more because of the ricotta bites built into the crust.

The house made sausages on both were worth the visit.

After we stuffed ourselves as full as possible, we asked for the rest of the pizza to be boxed up and headed across the street to the POPE where we realized there was no way we'd be able to eat any more pizza that night so we handed our takeout box to a man while we were waiting to get our ID's checked.  He looked like he was at the point in his night when he needed pizza and his eyes got wide when we said it was from Brigantessa, so I'm confident he took it home and enjoyed every last bite that we couldn't finish.

Overall we had an awesome meal 5/5 sausages!  Would eat again.

Dogs like hot dogs too

This is how my heart leaps when I see a hot dog

Pop Up Dog

The other week I checked out the PHS Pop Up Beer Garden on South Street.  After a couple hours of drinking beers and delicious strawberry sangria, we worked up a hunger.  The beer garden is right next to Jamaican Jerk Hut, but we went for the convenience of the Dietz & Watson truck parked right in the garden.  I tried the Philly Frank.  It was described as having a "pepper hash," which equated to raw chunks of bell peppers and onions.  I could have dealt with that if my hot dog wasn't also lukewarm.  Totes disappointing.  Save yourself the heartache and get some Jerk Hut if you get the munchies at the Pop Up.

Notice the square end of the hot dog as further evidence that it was barely touched by the grill.

Happy National Hot Dog Day

To celebrate we tried to make up for 5 years of not posting?

Dog Shack, Ocean City, NJ (PRESENT DAY)

Even though we haven't posted in roughly 5 years, we've been eating hot dogs all this time and recently found ourselves at the Dog Shack in OC. We are creatures of habit, what can I say? This time around the hot dogs were meh (seriously dudes, get your bun situation together).

Cathy's hot dog

You may wonder what that weird blob on Cathy's hot dog photo is... it's the specter of the seagull that attacked Cathy's pizza.  We shall call this seagull Pizza Chest.  And yeah, we ate pizza and hot dogs pretty much in the same sitting because it's what we do.
